Green Bay, WI - The U.S. Patent Office has awarded a patent to WS Packaging Group, Inc. for its FlexWrap, extended text label, which is part of its MultiVision line of extended text labels.

Engineered specifically for diameters as small as three-eighths inch, FlexWrap allows a large enough print area to accommodate regulatory compliance, consumer education, multiple languages, health and safety warnings, and pharmaceutical labeling requirements. FlexWrap is ideal for labeling OTC products, including unit-dose applications.

FlexWrap labels deliver a large print area in a very small footprint to help brand owners meet consumer education and regulatory compliance without the need for additional packaging, said Paulette Carnes-Gramse, MultiVision product development manager. They also offer a sustainable solution by making it possible to eliminate unit cartons because all product and consumer information can be incorporated into the label.

But sustainability aside, some brand owners are combining extended text labels with secondary packaging, such as blister packs, to ensure consumers use products correctly.

The addition of the FlexWrap patent makes WS Packaging the only label manufacturer with two extended text label designs engineered for small-diameter packaging and plastic tubes.

FlexWrap labels are composed of a base label the diameter of the package and a hinged top ply. The hinge is created during machine application, which is two-thirds faster than a continuous wrap label. The base label and top ply can be a combination of materials, but the majority of applications involve a clear base with a white top ply.

WS Packaging custom-designs each label to be machine-applied on its own equipment, as well as on the equipment of other manufacturers.

Whatever the combination of materials, FlexWrap labels are suitable for a broad range of applications, including fully conformable squeeze tubes, glass vaccine vials and any small-diameter structure such as barrel containers for lip balms or brushes. The label materials are completely water-resistant. They can also be combined with inks and special coatings that are resistant to the product itself, as well as stand up to extensive use. FlexWrap labels withstand the Sutherland Rub Test using four pounds of pressure and 25 rubs.

FlexWrap labels are easy for consumers to open and reseal, and have been tested to reseal multiple times without compromising label integrity. The labels can also be custom-designed to open, read and reseal based on product shelf life.

The FlexWrap patent, along with its FlexVision, product, makes WS Packaging the only label manufacturer with two patented extended text label designs engineered specifically for plastic tubes. FlexVision is 100 percent conformable and enables brand owners to replace silkscreen graphics with high-quality process printing. In addition to FlexWrap and FlexVision, WS Packaging offers the patented EasyTab extended text labels, which can hold up to nine sheets above the base label and are designed with a pre-curve to ensure the label can be easily opened and closed by the consumer.
