WestPack Wrap: Domino’s New A400 Coder Designed for Flexibility
Among Domino's new product releases at WestPack '99 (booth 5104) is the A400 advanced ink jet coding system. Featuring a compact design for rackable/stackable options, the coder is a real space saver. The system can be stacked or rack mounted for installation in even the smallest areas and is well suited for applications where multiple printheads are required.

The general-purpose ink jet printer features a rugged, compact cabinet constructed in 304-grade stainless steel suitable for a wide range of general manufacturing environments. The splash- and dust-proof IP53 cabinet (22x17.7x14.8 in.) is easy to wipe clean. The A400 prints up to four lines with a variety of print formats including bar codes/dot codes, logos, automatic serial numbering/batch coding and real-time clocks. Speeds to 1,500 ft./min. can be achieved.

One of the real benefits of the A400 is its ease of use. The control unit offers an easy-to-read backlit display with a large-button keyboard that provides access to intuitive control and data entry software. The most commonly used functions are made accessible using topic keys. The system's real-time message monitor displays codes as they are printed and can be viewed at any time.

Fluids can be added to the system in a matter of seconds, as color-coded and sealed container design ensure that the right fluids are fitted without spills. The ink system design uses large internal reservoirs and a nozzle seal, which allows the system automatic printhead cleaning. The ethanol-based inks used carry a low risk of taint for certain types of food products.

Reliable Startups
According to the supplier, Domino provides the only sealed nozzle technology on the market. For the A400 this ensures clean, dependable startup — even after extended periods of shutdown. And whether running continuously or shutting down daily, the A-Series printhead technology delivers precise print consistently. One button controls the complete startup and shutdown process.

The intelligent system design of the A400 allows the system to perform in a wide range of environments, minimizing the effects of temperature and humidity. It can operate in temperatures ranging from 40-112 deg. F (5-45 deg. C) with humidities from 10%-90% (non-condensing).

As for installation, flexibility and reliability is achieved through the use of surface mount technology and PCMCIA cards for fast configuration and programming.
