Sol Plastics Christens World's Largest Plastic Pallet Manufacturing Plant
Sol Plastics has opened what is said to be the world's largest plastic pallet manufacturing plant a new 100,000 sqft facility in Montreal where more than one million plastic pallets and containers will be produced annually. These products will be made from more than 30,000 m.t. of domestic post-consumer and industrial waste plastics from Quebec, the United States and Europe, which will be recovered, recycled and transformed into the new products.
Max Maurice, general manager of Sol Plastics, said that the project will result in over 60 jobs, about 15 of which are being created under a program developed by the Quebec Department of Employment and Solidarity. The $33-million plant is the fruit of a strategic alliance between Misol Technologies B.V. and two Quebec partners: the Socit gnrale de financement du Qubec (SGF) and the Fonds de solidarit des travailleurs du Qubec (FTQ). Misol director, Steven Mishaan, said "The environmental benefits inherent in recycling non-biodegradable plastics and manufacturing products without new resins are so great that we believe the Sol Plastics plant will make a significant contribution to sustainable development in Montreal, and Quebec as a whole. In fact, our facility constitutes one of the world's largest, if not the largest, integrated complexes for recycled plastics, and the largest plastic pallet manufacturing plant in the world."
Sol Plastics designs and manufactures high-quality pallets and containers made from post-consumer and industrial waste plastics recovered in Quebec, the United States and Europe, and recycled at the company's plant in east-end Montreal.
