Ragu Now Available in PET Hot-Fill Jar

In what the manufacturer calls a "common-sense improvement," Ragu pasta sauce has joined the ranks of food and beverage products that have switched from glass to plastic packaging.

Graham Packaging Co., L.P., (York, PA), a global producer of custom blow-molded plastic containers, has introduced a custom polyethylene terephthalate (PET) hot-fill jar in 45-oz and 66-oz sizes for the popular brand pasta sauce. The jar incorporates a patent-pending ergonomic design and special grip that make both sizes easy and convenient for consumers to handle.

Ragu sauce is one of the major food brands produced by Lipton. The new jars are currently being shipped to stores.

"We are excited about what the plastic jars offer our consumers — convenience, ease of handling and safety," says John Caron, senior marketing director for sauces at Lipton. "The move to plastic in the larger sizes is a common-sense improvement for the Ragu brand and our consumers."

The plastic jar is designed to capture the distinctive look of the traditional Ragu jar, a factor that Lipton deemed critical in maintaining brand recognition in today's competitive store environment. The Ragu name is embossed on the dome of the jar.

The jar also features a new closure system that allows high-quality lithographic printing on the closure.
