ProtecPac Begins Production At New Midwestern Facility

Montreal, Quebec - ProtecPac, a producer of protective packaging and building materials, has started production at a new facility in Sydney, Ohio, north of Dayton, to serve the Midwest. ProtecPac USA Inc. is the company's first operation in the United States and represents a multimillion dollar investment.

The new facility will produce the full range of ProtecPac products including polyethylene foam, air bubble cushioning, mailers, cohesive materials, laminated products and single-faced corrugated.

"We were already shipping to customers in Ohio from Montreal, but with a growing volume of business from the Midwest, we wanted to be closer to our customers," says Jan Wieringa, general manager at ProtecPac. "Our strength is personalized service," he adds. "A close proximity to customers supports that strategy. The Ohio location also provides a platform to tap new geographic markets," he explains.

Heading the Ohio operation is Bob Hooper, operations manager. A 25-year industry veteran, he joined ProtecPac earlier this year to oversee startup and serve on the company's U.S. senior management team. Other members of the team include business development managers, Gary Fawkes, who is based in Detroit, and Scott Myers, who is based in Chicago. Together, the trio brings customers more than 60 years experience in protective packaging.

The facility is in the process of ramping up staffing levels. In time, it could expand operations by exercising its option on the building's remaining floor space.
