Nylon 6,6 extrusion design guide ready for extruded thermoplastic nylon industry

Solutia Inc. (St. Louis), manufacturer of Ascend extrusion-grade thermoplastic nylon, has released the first nylon 6,6 extrusion design guide in the industry, the company says.

Solutia launched the Ascend brand in 1999 to apply the company's nylon 6,6 technologies to extrusion-based processes. Applications include food packaging, specialty film, textile and various monofilament profiles.

In North America, Solutia works with Prime Alliance (DesMoines, IA), a leading distributor of plastics resins nationwide, as its exclusive distributor to the marketplace.

The first-of-its-kind extrusion design guide for nylon 6,6 will be provided to customers in both hard copy and compact disc formats. The guide includes information about grade selection by application and end use, melt characteristics, drying, equipment and safety, as well as screw and head-and-die design.

Trimax, a wholly owned subsidiary of Prime Alliance, is the technical design and product development firm that worked with Solutia to develop the new guide. "This tool provides one resource with technically accurate data people are looking for regarding nylon 6,6, to speed product development along with ways to get additional guidance,'' says Rob Banning, a partner with Trimax. It allows designers to cut down on trial-and-error in cutting dies, eliminating significant development time."

All current Solutia Ascend customers will be receiving an advance copy of the guide. Other manufacturers and designers who would like to receive the booklet and CD should visit and register on the updated Ascend web site at www.ascendnylon.com.
