The Industry of the Year award recognizes one Volusia County Company that exemplifies excellence in overall sales growth and creation of high-paying jobs. In 1999, Kisters Kayat created 15 new full-time positions and invested $189,000 in upgrading their 35,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Edgewater, Florida. Last year also saw the company launch two new products, the WrapAround 50 and the TrayPacker 60 model machines, using technology transferred from its German parent company. It was a very strong year for Kisters Kayat, Inc., with 1999 revenue at the Volusia County manufacturing facility increased by 24.5%.

Kisters Kayat, Inc. is the combination of Kisters, Inc. of Erlanger, Kentucky and Kayat Engineering Corporation of Edgewater, Florida. Kisters Kayat, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kisters Maschinenbau GmbH of Kleve, Germany, a forty-year-old company with over $70 million in annual sales. .
Kisters, Inc. was established in 1989 as the United States sales and service center for Kisters packaging equipment manufactured in Germany. Over the past ten years Kisters, Inc. has consistently increased it's sales and market presence to the point where Kisters machinery is considered a market leader in packaging technology, with 1998 sales of over $26 million.
Kayat Engineering Corporation grew from modest beginnings when the first machine was designed on a dining room table. Over the past twenty years Kayat developed into a high-tech, leading edge designer and builder of precision packaging machinery. The Company's growth from a startup to sales in 1998 of over $9 million has been directly attributable to the talent and dedication of many people.
In November 1998 Kisters, Inc. acquired Kayat Engineering Corporation and formed Kisters Kayat, Inc. as the combination of two highly successful companies. Total employment is now in excess of ninety people and includes engineering expertise that is second to none. Kisters Kayat, Inc. operates from a modern 35,000 square foot facility in Edgewater, Florida with plans for expansion in 2002. Capabilities include state of the art CAD systems, a fully automated shop control system and on line parts department.
