New Technology Combines Tamper-Evidence and Labeling

A label perforation mechanism, available with all roll-fed labeling systems from B&H Labeling Systems, now allows processors to incorporate a tamper-evident seal with the package labeling. The combination of tamper-evident functionality with packaging labeling helps provide consumers with high quality product and at the same time allows manufacturers to enhance product differentiation and maintain production costs.

When the consumer breaks away the tamper-evident portion of the label, the remainder stays on the container for continued brand recognition. Incorporating tamper-evidence with the labeling application eliminates the need for a subsequent tamper-evident banding operation, thus minimizing capital costs.

How It Works
The optional perforation mechanism becomes an integral component of the B&H labeling system and scores a horizontal perforation into the label material just prior to the label cutting operation, before the label is applied to the container. Precise label control, achieved with pressure rollers, assures consistent perforations while accurate cutting and label registration is maintained.

Package designers working with shaped contour containers can incorporate tamper-evidence into the label design using B&H Labeling System's patented Endura shrink labeling technology with the perforation capability. The Endura system applies shrink labels to the package and heat shrinks the label to embrace the container's contour.

Straight wall cylindrical containers can also be designed to include tamper-evidence into the labeling application using non-shrink-labeling material when the closure and the shoulder of the container are flush.

The flexibility of the B&H system to handle a great variety of containers, including metal, glass, or plastic as well as a multitude of film substrates, enables package designers to create containers with dynamic shelf presence and to augment consumer product differentiation. Just-in-time inventory reduction and graphic flexibility further support the creation of unique packaging with economical short production runs that allow for easy seasonal or promotional package decorating. On-the-fly label changeovers and quick container changeovers achieved on labeling systems from B&H maximize line productivity in high changeover environments.
