New Packaging from IP Boosts Alternative-Egg Product's Shelf Appeal

To coincide with National Nutrition Month in March, Second Nature eggs, a fat-free and cholesterol-free alternative to shell eggs, is introducing a new "farm fresh" taste along with new packaging. The packaging, which includes Flavor Fresh Pour Spouts from International Paper, features a colorful farm motif with a blue background and easier-to-read product information.

Available in grocery stores nationwide, Second Nature eggs are available in easy-to-use 16-oz and 32-oz cartons with Flavor Fresh Pour Spouts that allow consumers to use just the amount they need. The product is also available in a 16-oz twinpack, including two 8-oz cartons.
Made with 98% pure egg whites, Second Nature eggs have the taste and texture of shell eggs. Second Nature eggs are nutritionally enhanced with vitamins, minerals and riboflavin and have the American Heart Association's certification seal.
"Taste tests and marketing studies have found that consumers find the new taste of Second Nature eggs delicious and the new packaging very appealing," said Bing Graffunder, president and chief operating officer of Morningstar Foods Inc., a Suiza Foods Corp. (Dallas) subsidiary. "Second Nature offers consumers a healthy alternative to shell eggs with half of the calories, none of the fat or cholesterol and a great fresh taste."
The new resealable packaging features more nutritional information for consumers, including product features, such as "fat free" and "cholesterol free." Also included on the packaging are cooking equivalencies.
"We designed the new packaging to reflect the fresher taste of Second Nature eggs," said Toby Purdy, senior vice president, marketing for Morningstar Foods. "The updated and consumer-relevant design clearly communicates that Second Nature eggs are a natural and healthy alternative to shell eggs."
