NEFAB North America, a branch of the Swedish packaging company NEFAB, will celebrate the opening of its new 90,000 square foot factory in Peterborough, Ontario, on May 29th. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be conducted by the Swedish Ambassador to Canada, Mr Lennart Alvin, former Chairman and CEO of Ericsson along with the present Chairman of NEFAB, Dr. Bjorn Svedberg, and Peterborough Mayor, Ms. Sylvia Sutherland.

NEFAB (www.nefab.se) is a Sweden-based concern with subsidiaries and affiliates in 30 countries worldwide. Last year revenue amounted to USD 120 million. The corporation is focusing on the transport packaging market, with NEFAB ExPak, a no-nail plywood packaging system and NEFAB RePak, a product family of reusable containers forming the core of its product line. These are complemented by inner packaging materials for cushioning and corrosion protection as well as other types of packaging materials, making NEFAB a provider of complete packaging solutions. About half of its business is in the telecommunications industry, with prominent customers such as Alcatel, Ericsson and Nortel Networks.

NEFAB started its North American venture in 1984, establishing a plant in Peterborough for the manufacture of its core products. In 1989 a Sales Company was started in the USA, and in 1993 a new division in Peterborough for heavy-duty packaging. In 1997 a core product manufacturing plant was established in Schaumburg, Illinois, focusing on customers in the Midwest USA.

With the rapidly growing demand in North America, NEFAB decided to increase the production capacity in Peterborough, building a 90,000 SF factory for the manufacture of its core products. The new plant was ready in the beginning of the year, the move completed in early March. In conjunction with this, the Heavy Duty Division moved into the vacated factory, effectively increasing its production capacity by 25%.

NEFAB North America covers the industrialized regions of the continent with its direct sales force, supplying customers all over the continent including Mexico. A significant portion of the production in Peterborough is exported to the United States.
