By exposing flexible food packages such as MAP packs to a sequence of controlled vacuum changes, the TSE 6080 measures the rate of air flow in or out of the pack in a quick, reliable, quantitative and non destructive test.
Technical & Scientific Equipment Company flexible food packages such as MAP packs to a sequence of controlled vacuum changes, the TSE 6080 measures the rate of air flow in or out of the pack in a quick, reliable, quantitative and non destructive test. The test is extremely sensitive and is able to measure tiny leaks in packages as small as coffee sachets, or up to 25 kg weight. Test times typically vary from 1-10 seconds, depending on the pack size.

The technique is particularly useful for checking the seals on modified atmosphere packs, ensuring the protective environment can be maintained through the expected shelf life. MAP products are dependent on the quality of the seals to ensure the retention of their protective environment. The adjustment of heat seal temperatures, wrinkles in the film components, contamination in the seal area or variations in the pack materials can all contribute to leaking seals. A simple, quick, reliable and non-destructive test is essential to ensure that the sealing system is optimized, and that expected shelf lives are achieved.

The TSE 6080 achieves a fast and cost effective test utilizing standard gas mixtures by measuring the total gas leakage rate as a means for identifying faulty packs. Utilizing a standard PC display the TSE 6080 shows a pass or fail result, as well as the measured leakage value, and maintains a log file for trend analysis and certification. It is easy to view details of the test to check the sensitivity and adjustment of the test method, and to easily modify store or retrieve test methods.

The TSE 6080 can be designed as a benchtop unit or mounted on a stainless steel trolley to enable it to be located close to the packing line while setting up conditions.
