IoPP Names AmeriStar Winning Packages

The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) has selected the 1999 AmeriStar Package Awards. Chosen by a panel of packaging industry experts — IoPP's own Certified Packaging Professionals — the winning entries will be on display at IoPP's booth at WestPack '99 in Anaheim, CA, September 28-30. A banquet to present the awards to the winners will be held at WestPack on September 28.
Here's a brief overview of the Special Recognition winning entries:

Chris Scanlon, The Purdue Frederick Co., for Betadine Prepstick Applicator
This applicator utilizes self-saturating disposable swabstick technology, which eliminates mess in applying topical antiseptic bactericide/virucide, while delivering more product in a controllable flow.

Larry Lambelet, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, for Dialpak III
A redesign of what has come to be recognized as a package icon for the "pill" resulted in three design patents that address the distinctive appearance and four utility patents that are based on novel structural designs. Among these are the mechanisms for setting the start day and for the orientation of the refill to the compact such that correct tablet sequencing is assured.

The CNU-602/E collapsible Sonobuoy Container is a user-friendly sheet aluminum design that meets the stowage density, economic, environmental and logistical requirements for the transport of the AN/SSQ-110 Mods Sonobuoy.
