International Dispensing Corp. Begins Testing for Gravity Feed Valve

International Dispensing Corp., Purchase, NY, has commenced consumer and laboratory testing for its new Gravity Feed Valve. The Gravity Feed Valve, which employs the company's licensed technology, is the dispensing mechanism employed in IDC's Bag-N-Box collapsible packaging for such beverage products as wine, juice and milk.

Several large consumer packaged goods companies in the wine, dairy, juice and salad dressing industries will be testing the Gravity Feed Valve to measure such consumer-related issues as ease of use, functionality and acceptance. Simultaneously, IDC has contracted with outside, independent laboratories to perform various quality assurance testing as well as performance related testing to independently validate the barrier and physical characteristics of the Gravity Feed Valve.

According to IDC, the collapsible packaging materials market in the United States is approximately $480 million and has been growing at a rate of 15% per year. The company believes that with its licensed patented technology it can capture a competitive share of this existing market, not only in the United States but overseas, as well. The proprietary and patented characteristics of its Gravity Feed Valve, combined with enhanced films for the manufacture of bags, represent an opportunity to expand the use of Bag-N-Box delivery systems into new product categories in the food and beverage industries.

The company is also near completion of engineering its second product — a disposable portion control pump system, which employs the licensed patented technology for Bag-N-Box and other disposable, collapsible delivery systems for the food and beverage industries. The pump is a unique innovation for collapsible delivery systems that combines the barrier attributes of the licensed technology, disposability and portion control. IDC is collaborating with several large consumer package goods companies, as well as its Joint Systems Development partner Rapak in finalizing the engineering steps for this product.
