Half-Size Returnable Plastic Container (RPC)

Chep USAize Returnable Plastic Container (RPC) measures 30 cm x 40 cm x 18.25 cm, weighs slightly more than a kilogram and holds the equivalent of .52 bushels. It is constructed of the same durable polypropylene materials as the company's other RPCs, and features the same easy-to-use and space saving collapsible walls. A new feature in the design of the half-size RPC is the scalloped side walls that ensure maximum cube efficiency.

The primary benefits of the half-size RPC include a 9% increase in volume per unit load, added efficiencies in handling and increased load stability. The RPC eliminates corrugated and related costs, reduces product damage, enhances pre-cooling, yields a longer shelf life and delivers many distribution efficiencies like modularity and standardization.

Another benefit of the RPC line is its ability to accommodate radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, which allows users to effectively track containers and product throughout the supply chain. Emerging RFID technology will also enable users to retrieve recorded information on the conditions faced by the product during the delivery process.

For grower/packers, using the half-size RPC can result in a reduction in storage space requirements because there is no longer a need to stockpile containers, the elimination of the investment for corrugated cartons at start of the season and reduced product damage.
