Graham Packaging Is Closing Cincinnati Plant
York, PA - Graham Packaging Company, L.P., has announced it is closing its container manufacturing plant in Cincinnati , Ohio , as part of its integration efforts from the acquisition of O-I Plastic Container.
Approximately 75 employees will be affected by the shutdown, which is scheduled to take place in mid-March 2006. Displaced employees will receive severance based on years of service. Some employees may be offered positions at other Graham Packaging facilities.
"This decision is based on declining volumes in the containers this plant produces and the availability of newer, more up-to-date manufacturing technology at other of our plants," said Roger M. Prevot, president and chief operating officer of Graham Packaging.
The Cincinnati plant originally was part of O-I Plastic Container, which Graham Packaging acquired in October 2004. Containers still being made in Cincinnati for household, personal care, and automotive products will be shifted to Graham Packaging facilities in Illinois and Kentucky.
