EarthShell Appoints Spengler as CFO

EarthShell Corp., an innovator of biodegradable packaging materials for the foodservice industry, has named William F. Spengler chief financial officer. Spengler, 44, joined EarthShell in May 1998 as senior vice president of corporate planning and development. Prior to joining EarthShell, he was CFO of Sweetheart Cup Co. Inc. of Owings Mill, MD.

Spengler replaces Scott Houston, who was named vice president of corporate planning. The appointment, said William F. McLaughlin, EarthShell's president and COO, is consistent with the company's plan to build its management and organizational infrastructure and move all primary management functions to its new headquarters in Baltimore.

"Bill Spengler brings a solid background in financial management and strategic business development, as well as a broad base of industry knowledge that will serve EarthShell very well as we transition from a development-stage venture to a commercial company," added McLaughlin.

EarthShell is engaged in the licensing and commercialization of proprietary composite material technology for the manufacture of disposable packaging such as cups, plates, bowls and hinged-lid containers for the foodservice industry. The company is developing and manufacturing its initial product with its first licensing partner, Sweetheart Cup Co. Full-scale commercial production is anticipated during this year. EarthShell also has recently signed letters of intent to commercialize and market a full range of foodservice disposables with Prairie Packaging, a leading disposable products producer and preferred supplier to SYSC0, and with Huhtamaki, the leading producer of foodservice disposables outside North America.

Prior to joining Sweetheart, Spengler served as vice president of finance for North American and international divisions of Black & Decker from 1993 to 1997. Previously, he spent 14 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb where he held key international finance and business development positions.
