Internal Bubble Cooling (IBC) is a well established way to add up to 35% more throughput to a blown film line. IBC consists of cool air being supplied to the inside of the bubble through an internal air ring, and hot air being removed through an exhaust stack. Two variable speed blowers, an optional chiller coil, an air flow valve, and a digital layflat control system with ultrasonic sensors make up internal bubble cooling. The heart of IBC is the layflat control system. Internal bubble cooling is a very dynamic process exchanging large volumes of air inside the blown film bubble. The layflat control system regulates blower speeds, trims air flow, and maintains film layflat to within +/-0.1875" (+/-4.76mm) under normal conditions. By using multiple, fixed position sensors, the Battenfeld Gloucester system will compensate for sway or off-set bubble position as well as provide direct digital readout of film layflat and all IBC conditions.
