Curwood integrates former Viskase shrink products into its flexible packaging line

Curwood Inc. (Oshkosh, WI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bemis Co. which acquired the specialty films business of Viskase Companies Inc. in September 2000, has announced plans to incorporate the Viskase barrier shrink bag business into its own line of flexible packaging products for food packaging, according to Don Nimis, Curwood executive vice president.

"Viskase has strong and complex technologies that both complement and extend the technologies employed in our very successful high-barrier flexible packaging business," says Nimis. "The Viskase produce line is a natural extension of the strong position and relationships we have in the processed meat, cheese and poultry markets."

Nimis added that the acquisition will advance Curwood's capabilities to provide a broader range of products that are high on the value-added packaging chain.

Curwood will continue operations at the newly acquired former Viskase manufacturing plants. The former Viskase plants acquired by Curwood are located in Centerville, Iowa; Pauls Valley, OK; Lindsay, Ontario, Canada; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Swansea, Wales, U.K.
