Crown Announces Easy-Open End Developments For North American Food Market
Philadelphia, PA – CROWN Food Packaging USA announces it is working closely with major food marketing companies to introduce its PeelSeam peelable lids in the United States. Already popular in Europe, Crown is currently coordinating the transfer of technology and expects to begin local production in 2006.
Ideal for a variety of products including pet food, fish salads, meat recipes, fruits and vegetables and dry powders, the PeelSeam opening system consists of a thin, flexible panel, heat-sealed to a rigid steel or aluminum ring which is conventionally flanged for the usual double seaming process.
Available in round or rectangular shapes, PeelSeam is quickly, easily and safely removed, leaving no sharp edges. The panel features a small tab for easy lifting and is constructed from aluminum foil, laminated with polypropylene film on the inside and lacquered on the outside. The lids are designed to run through over-pressure retorts and conventional filling and seaming equipment, allowing food processors to cost-effectively convert from traditional can ends.
"We are excited to bring the next generation of easy-open ends to the United States market," comments Ray McGowan, President, CROWN Food Packaging USA. "Europeans have valued the convenience offered by packages with PeelSeam technology for several years now. The lids open easily and make it simple for consumers to bring products with them wherever they go and still enjoy a nutritious meal. We are confident that the United States marketplace will feel the same way."
In addition to offering consumers added convenience, PeelSeam can help food marketers cost-effectively enhance brand recognition by embossing the PeelSeam foil tab, or decorating the panel itself, with company logos, graphics and promotions.
