Asia's Scientex boosts production with new Black Clawson cast stretch film lines
Black Clawson Converting Machinery, LLC, (Fulton, NY) will be supplying two cast stretch film lines to Scientex Packaging Films, Sdn Bhd, Shah Alam, Malaysia. The lines will provide Scientex with a 12-up (two 6x500 mm roll width) production capacity at its new Pulah Indah facility.
Each coextrusion line will be 3,000 millimeters wide (118 inches) and will produce five-layer stretch films used for industrial wrapping. Each line will process nearly 2,700 kilograms per hour (6,000 lbs/hr). Typical applications include hand and machine wraps.
Each line has operating production speeds of up to 600 meters per minute (2,000 ft/min) and uses four main extruders, plus an extrusion system for edge encapsulation. These employ Black Clawson patented low-shear mixing screws and process a wide range of resins, ensuring Scientex of operations suited to its specific requirements.
Homogeneously melted materials feed into a Cloeren Five-Layer Variable Geometry (VG) feedblock. This feedblock allows operator adjustment of layer structure without interrupting running conditions.
From the feedblock, the melt is fed into the Cloeren Epoch die, designed to ensure uniform gauging in multi-layer, thin-film applications.
Finished product is inline slit and wound on Black Clawson's patented Black Magic Winder II (BMW II), designed specifically for high-speed slitting and winding of stretch film. The BMW II offers an adhesiveless roll change, which ensures minimum top roll waste, eliminates need for core tapes or adhesives and provides reliable, clean cuts at high line speeds.
Black Clawson has also incorporated its own automatic roll handling system that works in conjunction with the BMW II, automatically removing rolls from the winder and recoring shafts in less than 60 seconds. This eliminates the need for a dedicated operator to handle the rolls coming off the winder at high frequency.
All components will be controlled by the Integrator II Supervisory Control System, an open-architecture PC-based system that allows supervision of the entire line from one operator position and provides for information management and dissemination, both on site and from remote locations.
Scientex also has two existing Black Clawson 2500 mm stretch film lines, one of which utilizes Black Clawson's Robotic winder, in addition to the two new lines.
Headquartered outside Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, Scientex Packaging Films produces stretch wrap and PVC films for a number of industries. "This is truly a partnership for now and the future, as Scientex Packaging Films will continue to be a dominant film producer in the Far East," commented Ed Lincoln, vice president of sales for Black Clawson.
