AET Films has named Joseph Howard vice president, Technology, according to David Terhune, executive vice president and chief operating officer. Howard will lead the technology group in developing signature films and in providing exceptional technical service to customers. In making the announcement, Terhune cited Howard's many accomplishments, including the restructuring of the AET Films' Covington operations and initiation of Best Practices throughout the manufacturing organization.

Howard, who most recently served as director of manufacturing, has extensive experience in research and technological management. Prior to joining AET Films three years ago, he held key management positions with ICI plc including overseeing the operations and technical development of their OPP division and leading their Polyester Films Research & Development Group. After earning a doctorate in Physical Chemistry at the University of Durham in Great Britain, Howard served as a professor there for eight years, publishing more than 85 research papers and articles in the areas of surface chemistry, catalysts and polymers, theoretical chemistry and analytical techniques.

At the same time, Glenn Pennycook was named director of manufacturing. He assumes responsibility for operation of the Covington Specialty Processing Unit and coordination of customer-oriented programs designed to improve AET Films' manufacturing excellence. His experience and leadership were instrumental in starting the company's groundbreaking Tenter III plant in Terre Haute, IN. Before joining AET Films, Pennycook held manufacturing management positions with Mobil Chemical and Allied Signal. He is a graduate of McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, where he studied chemical engineering and management.

AET Films also announced the promotion of Erich Emhuff to Plant Manager for Tenter III. He has been with the division since September 1997, when he became technical manager for the plant. Prior to his position with AET Films, Emhuff's experience included work as a process engineer, an operations manager, a project manager, and a plant manager. He holds a chemical engineering degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN.

AET Films, a division of Applied Extrusion Technologies, Inc., is a leading manufacturer of oriented polypropylene (OPP) films for packaging, labeling and overwrap applications.
