PAC GUARD™ Model 500 Non-destructive Leak Detection Tester
MOCON, Inc.Brochure: PAC GUARD™ Model 500
PAC GUARD™ 500 is a non-destructive leak detection system designed for production line quality control, and package development applications. Emphasizing ease of operation, the Pac Guard 400 can detect weak heat seals, gross leaks, or small pin holes in finished products within seconds. Ideal applications include sterile medical supplies, food packaging, and pharmaceutical packaging. This portable system can be used to test blister packs, foil pouches, plastic pouches, thermoformed cups, bottles, boxes, and small packages. Testing works best with dry products where some headspace exists. An optional CO2 pressure chamber is also available.
Cardiac catheters, pacemakers, joint implants are all wonders of medical technology that improve, extend and save lives. All depend on their packages to assure they are safely preserved and maintained prior to use. The package is the key element of sterility maintenance, preventing the intrusion of contaminating microorganisms between the time of sterilization and use.
Packaging technology has lagged the advances in the medical devices industry. Validated tests assure the STRENGTH of the package, predicting if the package will break open during processing or transportation. Few tests exist for checking the INTEGRITY of the package. Vision tests for damage that is barely discernible by the human eye have been the main vehicle for package evaluations. Other tests are used, but these destroy the package, limiting their effectiveness and creating cost inefficiencies.
MOCON has developed the Pac Guard System, which employs a non-destructive test that quickly and precisely alerts when defects exist. If defects are found, the package is to be rejected. If no defects are indicated, return the package to production with confidence that it is damage free.
The Pac Guard is based on technology proven in 150 installations worldwide. And, it has the additional ability to test the porous packages prevalent in medical device applications. The Pac Guard 500 can be used at every phase of medical device packaging, in design and process validation, before and after sterilization evaluations, stability studies, shipping simulations, production and quality assurance monitoring and returned goods package assessment.
Pac Guard Systems can be used in:
- Package Development
- Process Development
- Inprocess Inspection
- Quality Assurance of Incoming Components
- Shipping Simulations
- Returned Goods Evaluations
