Free Packaging Planner Helps Brand Packagers Develop Successful Strategic Packages with Proven 5-Step Process
December 22, 1999
The Planner outlines a systematic, step-by-step process for increasing overall package effectiveness and reducing total costs. The process includes: 1) the development of written objectives; 2) an analysis of packaging needs; 3) package ideation and designs; 4) package refinement, testing and execution through engineering and manufacturing; and 5) the pursuit of improved quality, cost and other goals through an established continuous improvement effort. Each section contains a useful checklist of considerations and action items.
By referencing the guide, brand packagers will be able to identify opportunities for differentiating competitive product features, creating strong impact at point of sale, improving protection to decrease pilferage, damages and returns, and enhancing manufacturing, assembly and supply efficiencies.
The new Planning Guide is based on a process currently used by Placon and its customers to successfully launch major new packages and redesigns. It has proven effective in staging strategic packages for customers such as Gillette, SmithKline Beecham, Fiskars and SC Johnson, and has generated significant, quantified results.
The Planner was developed in response to feedback from packagers nationwide, says Laurabeth Kline, Placon Marketing Manager. "We continue to hear that even the largest companies struggle with identifying and bringing together the elements required for a successful package," says Kline. "The planner is a valuable tool no matter what the size or scope of the packaging project. From choosing the best stock package for a high-volume commodity to creating a highly complex custom thermoformed package, the Planner helps approach the package in a practical, yet strategic way."
Headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, Placon is one of the nation's leading thermoformers and packaging integrators and serves Fortune 500 clients throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
